Minimalism-Our Christmas decorations this year

We kept our Christmas decorations simple this year. Some may not think it is minimalist enough, but that's OK! To me this is a big step in minimizing our stuff.

Since living together, my husband and I usually put our tree up on Christmas Eve because we are slackers...and because trees are cheaper the day before Christmas. Then we put the decorations away, but we do it weeks later. Then after nagging over and over again about how we need to take the tree down, my husband finally gets rid of it by February. Yeah we're those people.

This year with trying to get out of debt, we agreed that we would not buy a tree this year. We plan on investing in a fake one next Christmas.

This year we put on decorations on the faux fireplace my husband made and put up a miniature fake tree that my parents had given my oldest years ago. Here's what our decorations looked like this year:

My baby put my Breaking Bad and Batman figures in the tree we put up for her and her sister. The second photo is the front of our house with luminarias. We put them up every Christmas Eve and it's the one tradition I am keen about. We HAVE to put them up every year and I enjoy making them. The last photo is the faux fireplace my husband made. It was our first Christmas to have the stockings on a mantel in our home. 😊 I made that decoration that's hanging across the mantel by tying ribbon to string. It was fun to make 😊

The only piece I regret not putting out was my oldest daughter's preschool tree. When she was in preschool, she made a tree with ornaments on it. I always like to revisit the ornaments she made and it reminds me of when she was little. I missed it this year and will be sure to put it up next year.

We just came back from our vacation, and I'm so glad that we don't have to take time to pack everything back up. I still have essays to grade and I'd like to enjoy the last few days we have left of break to spent time with the girls. Decorating this year means less time packing up and more time for us!

Decluttering-Getting Rid of Facebook

I have a month left of maternity leave. To say that I'm overwhelmed is an understatement. I've spent the last year decluttering my house. I recently realized that I need to declutter my social media as well. I don't have a Twitter or Instagram. I only recently got a Snap Chat. I joined a decluttering group about a month ago. At first it was very helpful. I was glad to find other people who were on the same journey as I. I noticed a few shared blogs of their journeys. I thought that was a fantastic idea and shared three posts of my own. It was then announced that posting your own blog wouldn't be allowed. I panicked. I felt like I was in trouble, that I did something wrong. I am in a state right now where I am struggling postpartum so what some may have seen as not a big deal, was a big deal to me. I apologized for sharing my blog, trying to explain that my own posts would be too long so that's why I shared it. But I continued to panic, and with fight or flight, I...

Kitchen Decluttering

It's so important to take before pictures! I recently decluttered my kitchen a bit more, but I wish I had a picture to compare how far I've come. My counters used to be cluttered with so much stuff. There was a pile of paper always by the sink and the wifi was also located there. It was all such a mess! There was hardly any free counter space and it always looked so sloppy! I took some pictures of what my kitchen currently looks like, but I wish I had more before pictures so I can remind myself that our kitchen is so much more pleasing to the eye now than it used to be! If you are starting a minimalism journey and you want to watch your progress, I suggest taking pictures! Decluttering is like losing weight; you reach a point where you feel like you can't see a difference, but you know you have been working so hard to change. Then you see an old photo and realize how far you've come. This has been how I feel with decluttering. I feel like there is still so much jun...
